UL's Center for Innovative Learning and Assessment Technologies is working on a variety of science-based educational video games for middle school students. I spoke with the director, Doctor Douglas Williams, about its most recent game called Conquest of the Coastlands.
Williams says that educational video games are a much more hands-on learning experience for students and they make the information more interesting and memorable.
Once their games are proven to be effective, the center would ultimately like to make them available to children across the US.
