Concert to benefit Nina search effort announced

Friends, family members and area businesses are sponsoring a huge concert, auction, and family fun day on Sept. 7 to raise funds so the private search for UL student Danielle Wright and six other missing crew members from the historic 70-foot yacht Nina can continue.

Searchers believe the yacht is drifting after encountering storms while sailing from New Zealand to Australia. Danielle's parents, Ricky and Robin Wright, contacted Texas Equusearch to spearhead the search.

Doors will open at Blackham Coliseum at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 7 for the Family Fun Day.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for those under 21.

Many local groups have donated their time and talents to help the search efforts including Geno Delafose, Travis Matte, Mackenzie Bourg, Dustin Ray and Southern Grove, American Heart Band, Mike Dean, Shawn and Lance Band, Beau Young, and Elvis Barker.

At 6:30 PM, Our Savior's Church will lead a time of praise and worship. Pastor Jacob Aranza will speak, followed by personal messages from Ricky and Robin Wright about search efforts and the faith that's carried them through this difficult situation.

Live and silent auctions will go on throughout the day. Already donated are vacation getaways, hunting trips, a 2013 Honda Rancher ATV, and much more.

Corporate sponsors are still being sought to help underwrite this event. Contact Robin Wright 337-234-7008 or email robinwlsu@gmail.com. Items are being collected for the auction. To donate, contact Ricky Lail 337-278-3441 or email rickylail@cox.net.
