Kendrick Joubert's family calls him the "sickle cell soldier."
They say dealing with sickle cell anemia has caused him to be in and out of the hospital since he was a baby.
With the many health challenges that come with the disease family members say say he refuses to let the disease get the best of him.
Kendrick will be a freshman in high school this year.
He says he can't wait to find a bone marrow donor so he could continue to do things he loves like playing basketball and karate.
Early Saturday morning the old city market building in Opelousas was filled with supportive who are hoping to be potential donors.
Many say they are signing up to be a bone marrow donor because they want to Kendrick to live a healthy life.
