BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The state's community college board has reversed course and decided against holding meetings by telephone.
Joe May, president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, had posted meeting notices for a weekly conference call with members of the system's Board of Supervisors each Friday
starting last week.
Questions were raised about whether such calls were allowed under the state's open meetings law. Legislative and education officials say the state attorney general's office has traditionally
issued rulings against teleconference meetings because the public doesn't have access.
Community college system spokeswoman Kizzie Payton said that the conference call meetings were canceled
after more research showed the board did not have that authority.
