NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A National Park Service spokeswoman says missing Colombian university president Francisco (fran-SEE-scoh) Piedrahita (PYAD-ruh-EE-tuh) has been found alive in the 2,000-acres of forest and swampland near New Orleans where crews have spent five days searching for him.
Linda Friar says the 65-year-old from Cali was spotted from a plane in a clearing about 200 to 300 yards from one of the trails where he had gone to watch and photograph birds Saturday afternoon.
She says he's dehydrated, but coherent.
The search for Piedrahita began when a taxi driver he had hired for the day flagged down a park ranger, saying his fare had not returned after two hours from a walk he expected to take up to 45 minutes.
