WEST MONROE, La. (AP) - The West Monroe campus of Louisiana Delta Community College is closed Monday because of a bridge collapse that blocked the only access to the school.
The News-Star reports (http://tnsne.ws/16ymJYf ) that the small bridge collapsed late Saturday under the weight of a Ouachita Police Jury track hoe. Nobody was injured.
The heavy equipment had been sent to Vocational Parkway when someone reported a depression in the bridge, which was 33 feet wide and 12 feet tall.
Police Jury Engineer Kevin Crosby says he believes there was a washout between the bridge structure and a culvert beneath it. He says building a new bridge could take weeks.
School officials say the Police Jury will consider creating an alternate route for people to get onto campus.
