Cold, Periods of Rain Likely

A series of disturbances aloft will override the chilly air that has settled into Acadiana leave us with dreary skies and occasional periods of rain and drizzle likely through Tuesday night.

Fortunately temperatures will not be cold enough for any winter precipitation in Acadiana but the story could be quite different especially from Central into Northern Louisiana where winter weather advisories are posted.

Winter weather advisories were posted for Vernon, Rapides & Avoyelles parishes northward for the slight chance of some freezing rain, but even in these parishes temperatures should be marginal for any significant icing accumulation.

Farther north will be a different story where winter storm warnings were posted for the extreme northeastern part of the state, including Monroe. Freezing rain accumulations along the I-20 corridor could be in the 1/4 to 1/3 inch range leading to icy conditions.

The main impulse that will produce the winter weather to our north will be pushing through Acadiana Tuesday afternoon/evening producing chilly rains of up to an inch or more across our area.

This same weather system will likely become another major ice storm for portions of the Southeast U.S. to the East Coast with more big snows a good bet across the major metro areas into the Northeast through Thursday/Friday.

For Acadiana, rain will taper to drizzle late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with lingering clouds and chilly temperatures continuing for most of the day.

Skies will definitively clear Wednesday night with a light freeze possible by Thursday morning.

Thereafter, it looks like smooth sailing for Acadiana with sunny & cool conditions Thursday accompanied by highs in the mid-upper 50s.

Fair to partly cloudy skies are anticipated Friday into the weekend with highs in the 60s Friday and upper 60s to lower 70s this weekend.

Although it will likely get cool again for Acadiana, much of next week looks to stay rather mild with daytime highs persisting in the low-mid 70s...so spring is not that far away!
