NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Rear Adm. Paul Zukunft (zoo-KUHNFT) will
relieve Rear Adm. James Watson as federal on-scene coordinator for
the Gulf oil spill.
National Incident Commander Thad Allen said Saturday that
Zukunft will take over the job Monday.
Zukunft is the Coast Guard's assistant commandant for marine
safety, security and stewardship. He has been handling strategic
planning for the spill response for several weeks.
Watson will return to duty as Coast Guard Atlantic area deputy
commander, based in Portsmouth, Va.
Rear Adm. Mary Landry, the first Coast Guard officer in the
on-scene coordinator role, earlier returned to duty as commandant
of the 8th Coast Guard District in New Orleans.
