Coast Guard gets a new commander in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A Coast Guard captain who worked on the BP oil spill disaster is taking over the command of the Coast Guard sector in New Orleans.
Capt. W. Gautier took over the job Monday from Capt. Edwin M. Stanton at a change-of-command ceremony. The Coast Guard says Stanton is retiring from active duty.
The Coast Guard says Gautier was the chief of the agency's Deepwater Horizon Action Office in Washington, which was set up to deal with the BP oil spill last year.
Gautier is a native of Ridgewood, N.J., and a 1987 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
The sector commander in New Orleans is in charge of 900
guardsmen and 250 members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. The sector covers much of south Louisiana.
