Cleco says sugar cane debris is responsible for a major power outage in Acadia Parish earlier this week.
According to company representatives, preliminary investigations show that soot and other debris from sugar cane burning landed on a wire. This, they say, caused the wire to arc, knocking out power to the substation.
Crowley residents and some parish residents just outside of city limits lost power around 5 p.m. Tuesday. 6,600 customers were affected by the outage.
