City officials say that the Ville Platte Police arrested an individual in connection to a bomb threat called into the Evangeline Parish Courthouse Thursday morning.
The courthouse was evacuated after a bomb threat was called in shortly after 11 a.m. The courthouse will open Friday morning.
Police searched the courthouse, but found no evidence of a bomb, a city official said.
According to District Attorney Trent Brignac, Ville Platte police apprehended an individual they believe was attempting to rob a convenience store, but allegedly may have called in the threat to the courthouse as a diversion for police.
The unnamed suspect is being held on an attempted robbery charge, but police continue to suspect him for the fake bomb threat as well.
The suspect could serve up to 20 years if charged and convicted of the false bomb threat.
