OPELOUSAS, La.- The City Of Opelousas presents Lundi Gras at the Village on Monday, February 11, 2013. This free cultural event will feature a day of activities including guided tours of the historic village from 1:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., a Mardi Gras costume contest, Native American Dance exhibition and live entertainment by Geno Delafose and French Rockin Boogie. The music is scheduled from 5:30 - 8:00 pm.
This event is dedicated to preserving and promoting distinct Cajun and Creole heritage. French for "the old village," Le Vieux Village is a historical park showcasing structures from Opelousas and other areas of St. Landry Parish. The village includes structures from the mid-1700s to the early 1900s which depicts the unique and diverse cultural heritage of Opelousas, Louisiana's third oldest city.
Concert-goers are welcome to bring lawn chairs for seating. Because beverages sales for the concert series go towards covering the cost of bands and event expenses, ice chests will not be allowed.
