(Opelousas, LA) City of Opelousas Special Project Manager Darryl Wagley says the City is issuing its first "missing person" alert. That's because the final winner in the 'Name the EventCenter' Contest has yet to be found.
Last week, a drawing was held after eight people submitted the same winning name. George David's name was pulled for the drawing. Unfortunately, David provided a phone number that is non-working and an address that can't be found on the entry form, so the city is still trying to locate him to give him his prize.
Wagley says the winner of the contest will have until Wednesday, November 18, to claim their prize. After that, a new drawing will be held. The winner of the Name the Center contest will receive $250 in prizes for local merchants.
Construction on the facility, located in the former Kroger Building off of Creswell Lane, is scheduled to be completed at the end of the year. The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, which recently purchased the building, has allocated 10-thousand square feet of the 48-thousand square foot building to the City. The remaining 38-thousand square feet is expected to be used for regional office for the department of agriculture and other state agencies to be named. Management of the building, other than the Civic Center is under the control of the Louisiana department of Agriculture.
