UL Lafayette's AmeriCorps is teaming up with the Cinderella Project of Baton Rouge to help make prom dreams a reality. High school juniors and seniors are getting some help finding the perfect prom dress this year. One UL senior recently donated her prom dress after participating in the Cinderella Project just four years ago.
"I was excited to know I can find a free dress and maybe I can find the right one and I did and it was awesome. It was very poise and elegant and it matched my skin tone very well and I just really loved that dress," said D'Ina Brown.
Dozens of high school girls will have a new dress just in time for prom. D'Ina Brown participated in the Cinderella Project four years ago. Recently Brown donated her prom dress back so someone else can enjoy the gorgeous gown.
"I've been meaning to do it but I really like that dress but I'm never going to wear it again so I was like like me stop being selfish with the dress," said Brown.
After donations of over 200 new dresses AmeriCorps members say students have a lot to look forward to during the give-away this year.
Juniors and Seniors across Acadiana will be able to shop from a selection of prom dresses, shoes and accessories all students have to do is show a valid student I.D.
The Cinderella Project accepts long and short dresses. Donations should be clean and on hangers.
leaders of the project say they're no strings attached and they're positive a lot of girls will find that perfect dress.
"Last year we gave away over 300 dresses. It's a wonderful feeling to know that we're helping make someone's prom dreams come true," said Lafayette Director Vanessa Adamson.
"If you really need a dress and you can't find the right dress or you don't have the funds to purchase the dress its the perfect opportunity, you never know what you'll find," said Brown.
The dress give-away is March 9th from 9a.m.-4p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn.
