Church Point's "Momma Sister" turns 104

Four years before the start of World War I and less than two years before Titanic's fateful voyage, Church Point resident Viola Duplechain LaDay was born.

William Howard Taft was our nation's 27th president.

Born August 3, 1910, the woman affectionately known as "Momma Sister" is the oldest resident in Church Point, La., and is the matriarch of six generations of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her grandson, Leon Chavis, surprised Momma Sister by playing his accordion and Momma Sister's favorite zydeco songs.

Family and friends say that they are nothing but inspired by the church-going resident of Acadia-St. Landry Nursing Home in Church Point. LaDay even began her birthday Sunday with a visit to Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Church Point.

Family members say that Momma Sister tells everyone that her secret to staying young is watching Mother Angelica on the EWTN Channel and praying the rosary.
