----------------------------------
Today, troopers with Louisiana State Police Region 2 Detectives continued their investigation into shooting involving a Church Point Police officer. The officer has been identified as Officer Willie Cocco. Troopers also learned that the suspect, who was shot during the pursuit yesterday, misrepresented himself during the traffic stop. The suspect has been positively identified as twenty-two-year-old Michael Guillory of Church Point. In an attempt to conceal his identity, Guillory initially identified himself as Jordy Malbrough. Jordy Malbrough, investigators have learned, had no part in the incident they are investigating.

Troopers will be interviewing Officer Cocco in the coming days about the incident. Guillory is currently being held without bond in the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for a probation warrant. Troopers are expected to obtain an arrest warrant for Guillory in the coming days for charges related to the investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

Troopers Investigate Officer Involved Shooting

Carencro- Today, Louisiana State Police Region 2 Detectives were contacted to investigate an officer involved shooting. The shooting involved a Church Point Police officer.

According to the preliminary investigation, on April 13, 2010, shortly before 2:00 p.m., a Church Point Police officer initiated a traffic stop on a 2009 Toyota Camry for a traffic violation. The Camry pulled over and the officer spoke to the driver, twenty-two-year-old Jordy Malbrough of Church Point, as well as a passenger in the car. During the course of the traffic stop, Malbrough fled from the officer in the Camry.

The officer initiated a vehicle pursuit. During the course of the pursuit, the Church Point officer shot the driver. The pursuit continued to Lafayette Parish. The pursuit came to an end when Malbrough lost control of the Camry, and crashed into a ditch on LA 182 in Carencro. After crashing the vehicle, Malbrough fled on foot. With the assistance of Louisiana State Police Troop I, Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, Sunset Police Department, and Carencro Police Department a perimeter was established and Malbrough was taken into custody a short time later. The passenger in the vehicle was detained at the scene for questioning and later released.

Malbrough was taken to a local area hospital by Acadian Ambulance for examination. He was treated, released, and arrested. Malbrough was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center for an outstanding warrant. The case remains under investigation and further charges on Malbrough are pending.
State police say man arrested misrepresented himself and is not Jordy Malbrough. He is instead 22 year old Michael Guillory. Troopers don't yet know why he lied about his identity.....their investigation is still ongoing.
Guillory is still in custody.

Status of Church Point officer? Calls to Church Point Chief of Police Al Venable were not returned last night. Suspect was shot in the back of the head, what if that were a fatal shot? He could have lost control of vehicle and killed someone...what is "chase" protocol? Just a few ideas...(jh)
