Christmas Away From Home items are sought for seafarers

The Diocese of Lake Charles Seafarers Center is collecting items for its Christmas "Away from Home" distribution to seafarers coming into Southwest Louisiana ports.

"Last year we handed out more than 800 bags to 75 percent of the ships that came into Lake Charles' ports," said, Deacon Patrick Lapoint, Center director. "We are collecting items for the Christmas season in hopes of meeting our goal of providing for 80 to 90 percent of the ships."

According to Lapoint, items needed include shaving cream, combs, shampoo, toothpaste, after shave lotion, toothbrushes, bath soup, hard candy, pens and pencils, deodorant, socks, washcloths, playing cards, disposable razors, prayer cards, and religious medals. "It would be an excellent time to pass along prayer cards and rosaries that you have stored up in the drawers and don't know what to do with them," Lapoint continued. "I would ask, though, that you do not send any used items."

Call 337-436-1315 if you have questions or would like to schedule a pickup of items.
