There will be no garbage, yard waste, or recycling collection on Christmas and New Year's days provided by Allied Waste or the Recycling Foundation in Lafayette. Regular Friday garbage and recycling customers will have collection on the Saturday following each holiday.
Excess garbage and large boxes, which does not fit in residents' 96-gallon garbage carts, will be collected in the cities of Lafayette and Carencro, and unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish by Allied Waste if garbage is bagged and on the ground near the blue garbage cart following Christmas and New Year. Regular Friday customers will have their excess garbage collected the Saturday following both holidays. Monday through Thursday customers will have excess garbage collected the week following both holidays. Collection of bagged garbage and large boxes outside of the blue garbage cart occurs only after major holidays.
Bags of garbage cannot exceed 35 pounds, and excess garbage should not be placed in any type garbage can other than the large blue Allied Waste garbage cart. Large cardboard boxes may be placed out for collection, but they should not contain household garbage.
Due to the collection of excess garbage, Allied Waste will not collect yard waste in Lafayette, Carencro, and unincorporated areas of Lafayette Parish from Saturday, Dec. 26 through Friday, Jan. 8. Yard waste collection, including clean, natural Christmas trees, will resume on Monday, Jan. 11.
Christmas trees which are not totally cleaned of all tree stands, lights, ornaments, and tinsel must be cut up and placed in the blue garbage cart as they cannot be brought to the Lafayette Compost Facility to be processed into mulch.
The Lafayette Compost Facility at 400 Dugas Road will be closed on Christmas and the Saturday following Christmas.
