Child abduction survivor Elizabeth Smart shared her story of recovery and hope with families in Lafayette Thursday evening.
Smart's appearance at Our Savior's Church in Lafayette was a benefit for the Hearts of Hope charity.
Back in 2002, when she was 14 years old, Smart was abducted from her bedroom at her home in Salt Lake City.
Her abuductor controlled her by threatening to kill her and her family if she tried to escape.
Amazingly, she was found nine months later and returned to her family.
Smart has become an advocate for change related to child abduction, recovery programs and national legislation.
