Opelousas Police Chief Perry Gallow warns residents to lock their doors after 8 vehicles were broken into Thursday night in the South Market St. area. He stressed all vehicles were unlocked. "It's a crime of opportunity. If your doors are unlocked, your chances of being a victim are extremely high," Gallow said.
He said criminals typically won't waste their time breaking into a locked car or truck. Instead, they walk neighborhoods going from car-to-car looking for unlocked vehicles. Of the eight vehicles rummaged through, a watch, a wallet and an iPad were stolen.
Anyone with any information about the break-ins is asked to call St. Landry Crimestoppers at 948-TIPS. Residents are asked to report suspicious activity. Call 948-2500 or 911.
