The Friends of Charlene Richard on Aug. 8 will host their annual mass marking the 55th anniversary Charlene Marie Richard's death.
The mass will take place at 6 p.m. at St. Edward's Church in Richard, Louisiana. Father Bill Melancon, pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Erath, will be the main celebrant.
Charlene Richard was born and raised in Richard and died of leukemia when she was 12 years old. Her strong Catholic faith has left thousands around the world to believe she is a saint, though the Roman Catholic Church has not formally recognized her as one.
This year's celebration begins at 5:30 p.m. with the praying of the Rosary. Immediately following the mass there will be a reception in the hall. For more information, contact the Friends of Charlene Richard at P.O. Box 91623, Lafayette, La., 70509.
