METAIRIE, La. (AP) - Jefferson Parish authorities have upgraded the charges against a motorist accused of fatally injuring a Kenner man in an accident last year.

Deputies say 49-year-old Robert Soileau, of Port Barre, La., was booked with vehicular homicide on Friday.

Deputies say the accident's victim, 69-year-old Jack E. Nichols of Kenner, died last year from injuries received in the July 31 crash.

The accident occurred on Veterans Memorial Boulevard at the entrance to Clearview Mall.

Soileau, who lived in Metairie at the time, was allegedly intoxicated when his car crashed into another car in which Nichols was a passenger.

Soileau is being held at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna on a $100,000 bond.

It was unclear whether he has an attorney.
