ST. MARTINVILLE, La. (AP) - The charges against a man arrested in connection to the June stabbing of Cory Nicholas Sonnier have been upgraded to first-degree murder from the original obstruction of justice charge.
According to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office, Patrick Paul George was booked into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center Thursday on charges of murder, and he is being held without bond.
The Advertiser reports Sonnier's body was found by a kayaker near a Lake Martin boat landing around 6 a.m. June 24. The body had multiple stab wounds.
Deputies say the case remains under investigation.
George was first arrested by the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force on July 7.
It was unclear whether George has an attorney.
