SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A state judge in Caddo Parish has increased the charge against a Shreveport father arrested in the death of his 1-year-old son.
The Times reports that 23-year-old Rodricus Crawford, who had been charged with second-degree murder, now faces a first-degree murder charge.
He was arrested in February.
Judge Mike Pitman increased the charge Wednesday after learning an autopsy of Roderius Lott revealed the child was smothered.
A forensic pathologist testified that there was evidence of intentional use of force against the child. The defense has indicated plans to demonstrate that the child was injured in a fall, and that he may have smothered when someone rolled over on him while he slept.
