January 16, 2013 - Lafayette, LA - Miles Perret Cancer Services is changing lives with its 5th annual Change for Miles Campaign.
Since 2008, local elementary schools have been collecting loose change for MPCS. Change for Miles is a service project for schools that can educate children about giving back to their community and helping local families with cancer. Students can become "Ambassadors" for Miles Perret Cancer Services and pass on information to family and friends. To date, 34 schools have participated in the campaign and over $250,000 has been raised to help families fight, survive, and live with cancer.
"It's a very empowering project for the students," says Executive Director Nicole Jones. "It helps them to understand that the small things add up and even though they are young, they can still have a huge impact on the life of someone else. The amount of excitement when that connection is made is truly inspiring."
The campaign will run for the rest of the 2012-13 school year. Schools kicking off their campaign in the month of January are:
Our Lady of Fatima - January 14
St. Bernard Catholic School - January 17
St. Peter Catholic School - January 23
St. Ignatius Catholic School - January 25
St. Francis Elementary School - January 25
