BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The leader of Capital Area Transit System said he has concerns that the agency has used buses for improper reasons in recent years violating the Federal Transit Authority's regulations.
CATS is accountable to FTA because the federal agency provides numerous grants to the public bus system.
Interim Chief Executive Officer Bob Mirabito tells The Advocate on Wednesday that CATS used buses for at least two inappropriate purposes.
Mirabito says an employee appreciation trip used a bus to bring employees and some Southern University students to a New Orleans Hornets game, and a CATS bus was used during a neighborhood parade.
Mirabito said he didn't know the details of either trip yet. He says the trips were brought to his attention by an employee.
