SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A deal struck by Centenary College and the University of Rennes in France would groom teachers to teach in French immersion schools.
The program called Louisiana Escadrille seeks to find teachers who will teach their subject matter in French in Louisiana.
The soon-to-be teachers study in the summer before going to France. That is paid for by the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana. The students then spend one year studying at the university in France. While there, they receive education courses and study their subject matter in French. All this is paid for by the French government. When they return to Louisiana, they receive a Master's of Art in Teaching from Centenary and commit to teaching in an immersion program for at least three years.
