Catholic Charities Help Thousands of Fishermen

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Since May 1, Catholic Charities has helped
more than 4,600 people hurt by the oil spill.
The Archdiocese of New Orleans said on Monday that as oil comes
ashore and more fishing waters are closed, the church is looking at
ways to help those communities.
So far, four emergency relief centers have been established
where fishermen can get food, crisis counseling and other services.
Those centers are in St. Bernard Parish, eastern New Orleans, Port
Sulphur and Point-a-la-Hache.
Additionally, at St. Patrick in Port Sulphur and Mary, Queen of
Vietnam in eastern New Orleans, the Louisiana Departments of Social
Services and Health and Hospitals are available to help people
register for food stamps and Medicaid.
