HARRISONBURG, La. (AP) - Investigators with the Catahoula Parish Sheriff's Office are working to identify the remains of a young female found north of Harrisonburg.
Sheriff James Kelly said in a news release Monday that two Baton Rouge hunters discovered a skull Friday evening.
Kelly said forensic pathologists from Louisiana State University confirmed that it was human and likely from a young girl between the ages of 8 and 15.
He said evidence suggested the remains had been in the area for several weeks but likely less than a month.
Kelly said there were no local reports of missing persons reported recently that would match the description of the girl, who had braces on her teeth and long brown hair.
