NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The Carnival Destiny is getting a new name, the Carnival Sunshine, and it will replace the Carnival Conquest in New Orleans in November 2013 following a $155 million renovation.
Carnival Cruise Lines said Tuesday the 2,642-passeder Carnival Destiny is now homeported in Miami and travels to the Caribbean and Bahamas. When it arrives in New Orleans under its new name, it will be able to carry 3,006 passengers slightly exceeding the 2,974-passenger capacity of the Conquest.
The Times-Picayune reports company officials decided to position the refurbished ship in New Orleans, in part, because the city is one of its most popular destinations and is within an easy drive or flight to major cities.
