An employee at a Breaux Bridge salt plant died Saturday following a worksite accident. Officials with Cargill Salt say Steve Rodrigue was working by himself on the fifth floor of the facility when the accident took place. His body was found around 6:30 P. M. Cargill says they are not sure what caused the accident, as Rodrigue was alone at the time.
Cargill says Rodrigue was a plant superintendent at the Breaux Bridge facility and had been with the company for over 20 years. They also say it was not uncommon for Rodrigue to work alone.
OSHA investigators were expected to arrive on site today to investigate the accident. Counselors have also been called in to speak with employees about the accident. The St. Martin Parish Coroner's Office says the preliminary cause of death is electrocution. However, the cause of death is still under investigation.
