Deputies in Rapides Parish have arrested a woman accused of stealing from the person she was taking care of.
Deputies say on March 5, 2014, they received a theft complaint from a resident living in the 1400 block of LA 1204 in Pineville. The victim indicated her caretaker had stolen checks and cashed them for $750.00. The victim says the suspect also asked to borrow her vehicle, but she refused to return it.
Venessa Ann Gauthier was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center for one count each of Forgery, Theft of the Assets of a Disabled Person and Unauthorized Use of a Movable. Gauthier was later released on a $3,250.00 bond.
"In this day and time, more and more of our citizens require assistance from caregivers. In some cases, these caregivers take advantage of those they have been hired to help. I urge families that employ caregivers for their loved ones, to keep a close watch on their finances and their wellbeing. We have to protect those who can't protect themselves" said Sheriff William Earl Hilton.
