As the rain continues, residents in Carencro and Scott are doing what they can to protect their homes. The rain slowed down during the day on Wednesday, which allowed some of the water to recede. But some residents aren't taking any chances as the second round of rain is coming their way.
"We've got one house that's a little low we need to bag up and try to keep the water out of it," Keith Thibodeaux of Scott said.
The first round of rain dropped about three inches across the area, but into Thursday, parts of Lafayette Parish can expect another three to six inches of rain. After last year's floods in Carencro, many have taken the necessary precautions. With the ground saturated, it will be much harder for rainwater to be absorbed.
"I think more people are aware of the hazards with the rain that we've got coming. I think people are more knowledgeable and learned from past experiences," Sherwood Ransom said.
Many communities around Acadiana have offered sand and bags to their communities. Residents just need to bring their shovels and bag it up themselves.
