BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Lobbyists can spend more money wining and dining legislators and other public officials starting July 1.
The Advocate reports the rate will go up from $54 to $56 per occasion.
The law from 2008 started out setting a $50 per event limit, but a provision in the law allows increases based on the federal Consumer Price Index for food and beverage.
The law gave the Louisiana Board of Ethics the authority to monitor the situation annually and promulgate rules to increase the amount. The board has voted to move forward with rules to raise the limit, because the price index has risen by 3.6 percent after staying flat for the last two years. That translates into a $2 increase in the food and drink limit.
