Help the environment, support local arts and contribute to the oil spill clean up-all in one.
Two environmental groups, the Green Monkeys and UL's S.P.E.A.K., are raising money to take 40 people to clean up the oil spill in Venice or Grand Isle.
"We'll take a trip to go to the coast through Coastal Rescue-you've got to take a corporate group with you so they can back you up as far as what to do because you're dealing with a hazardous product," says Green Monkeys Director John Pastor.
"Cans for the Coast" is Saturday June 19th and Sunday June 20th. You can drop off aluminum trash bins, or even your empty coke cans at T'Frere's Bed and Breakfast in Lafayette from 10am to noon.
Local artists will turn the cans into recycling bins, then businesses or families can sponsor a can for $175 to put outside.
For example, one can has already been made to look like T'frere's Bed and Breakfast.
All the proceeds will go toward sending the group to the coast.
If you are interested in sponsoring a can you can get more information at the event.
