Cane Cutters Suffer Tough 2-1 Setback vs. Aces

The Cane Cutters (2-2) overcame a five run deficit to beat the Alexandria Aces (1-4) by the score of 7-5 at Bringhurst Field in Alexandria, LA. Scott Shimp (1-0) got the win for the Cane Cutters pitching four innings, giving up six hits, four runs (1 earned), walking four and striking out three. Kelby Langston came into the game in the eighth inning and closed out the game giving up two hits and striking out three, earning his first save of the year.
The Cane Cutters have struggled some in the field in their first three games of the season. In two of their first three games, they have had at least four errors in the field and this game was no different. Alex Marse struggled in the field again with three more errors to bring his total to seven. They had four errors against the Aces which allowed four of their five runs.
Offensively, the Cane Cutters bats were not as effective as they were in their first game against the Aces. In their first game, they got twelve hits to start their season off. This game had only five hits for the Cane Cutters. They were led by Austin Roussel (2-2, 2 BB, 2 SB) who got his first two hits of the year, Andrew Brown (2-5, 1 RBI) and Alex Marse (1-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI, 1 BB).
The Cane Cutters travel to Brazos Valley, Texas for a two game series to face the Brazos Valley Bombers (3-1).
