LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Despite a projected decrease in sales
tax revenues, Calcasieu Parish teachers can expect a salary step
increase for the upcoming school year.
The $1.3 million general fund revision is the result of
better-than-expected sales tax revenues in April and May. The board unanimously approved the move
The board also approved new school lunch collection procedures.
In a move to prevent a repeat of the this past school year's
unpaid lunch fees over $88,000 the board agreed that students with
outstanding balances won't be allowed to attend extracurricular
activities or field trips.
The school system will also send 30,000 households free and
reduced-price lunch program forms, make follow-up calls and update
principals on unpaid accounts.
