A Washington-Marion High School student has been arrested, charged with having a firearm on a school campus. Calcasieu Parish deputies say the 16 year old male student, who had not been at school since December, threw a backpack and jacket he was carrying to fellow student Shaiqwan Marshall, 17, when confronted by school officials. Deputies say a handgun was found in the backpack when it was searched. When questioned by deputies, they say both the 16 year old and Marshall denied ownership of the handgun.

Deputies say after further investigation, they found out another student, 17-year-old Ray J. Murray of Lake Charles, was seen giving the backpack to the 16 year old juvenile earlier on campus. The 16 year old juvenile and Murray were arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school property. Murray was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. The 16 year old juvenile was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.
Marshall is charged with obstruction of justice and was released on a misdemeanor summons.
