Calcasieu deputies arrest man on "failure to register" charge

A Vacherie man is being bars in Calcasieu Parish, accused of failure to register as a sex offender.

On January 12, at approximately 8:00 a.m., Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office deputies say they conducted a traffic stop on a car at the intersection of N. Simmons and Medora Street in Lake Charles for a traffic violation.

Deputies say 33-year-old Travis L. Joseph is a registered sex offender from St. James Parish who was convicted of indecent behavior with a juvenile in March 1999. Joseph has been allegedly living and working in Calcasieu Parish for the past month without notifying the proper authorities within three days, as required by law for all registered sex offenders.

Deputies also say Joseph did not possess any form of identification, which is required by law for all registered sex offenders.

Joseph was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with failure to register as a sex offender; and failure to comply with sex offender identification requirements.

Judge David Ritchie set his bond at $110,000.
