LAFAYETTE - After opening its 2013 home schedule last weekend hosting the inaugural Sawyer Camillo Memorial Volleyball Classic, the Louisiana volleyball team begins a nine-match road trip on Tuesday when it visits Jackson State at T.B. Ellis Gymnasium.
First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Ragin' Cajuns (5-2) won two of three matches on their home floor last weekend, defeating Nicholls State and Alcorn State before falling in four sets to Houston. The loss to the Cougars was just the second non-conference setback in 18 matches under Louisiana head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot dating back to 2008.
Louisiana enters the match against Jackson State (1-6) hitting .238 as a team, fourth in the Sun Belt Conference, while leading the league with 1.75 service aces per set.
Individually, Sara Mossakowski leads the Ragin' Cajuns, and is seventh in the Sun Belt Conference, in kills per set (3.15) followed by Lavinia Tataran (3.00). Tonice White (1.71 kills per set), Kelly Wiesmann (1.68), freshman Chanelle Gardner (1.47) and Kaylee Nemeth (1.45) are next in the Ragin' Cajuns' offensive attack.
Andrea Hole (9.85 assists per set) is second in the Sun Belt in assists with freshman Jessica Bartczyszyn (8.54) ranked sixth. Taylor Meade (0.54 service aces per set) and Hole are ranked first and second, respectively, in the Sun Belt Conference while Caitlyn Auxilien is fifth in the league with 4.29 digs per set.
After facing Jackson State, the Ragin' Cajuns will continue their road trip beginning Friday (Sept. 13) in the Benson's Hospitality Group Invitational in Athens, Ga. Louisiana will open the two-day tournament against UNC Greensboro at 3 p.m. CDT before returning to action on Saturday (Sept. 14) against host Georgia at noon CDT and North Florida at 3 p.m. CDT.
