LAFAYETTE - The schedule of games for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns softball team's 2013 season opening weekend appearance at the Hilton Plaza Classic in Houston has been altered after UT-Arlington bowed out of the event.
UTA's withdrawal from the tournament resulted in a new season-opening opponent for UL, plus an additional game on Saturday, Feb. 9.
The 11th-ranked Ragin' Cajuns begin play in the Hilton Plaza Classic, and begin the 2013 season, at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9 against Lipscomb. That game will be followed by the regularly scheduled game with Iowa at 7 p.m. - the original season opener when the schedule was announced in August.
Louisiana's Sunday schedule for the tournament now features a contest with Iowa at 11:30 a.m.
All games in the Hilton Plaza Classic Feb. 9-10 will be played at Cougar Softball Field located on the corner of Scott and Elgin Streets on the University of Houston campus.
Preparing to embark on the 33rd season in program history, the Cajuns are coming off one of their more successful seasons. Last season, Louisiana (53-6, 21-3 Sun Belt) lost only four times during the regular season, hosted an NCAA Regional at Lamson Park and came within one win of reaching the Women's College World Series.
