LAFAYETTE - Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball coach Bob Marlin announced on Wednesday the signing of junior college product Devonta Walker to a Grand-In-Aid for the 2014-15 season.
Walker, a 6-foot-7 forward, will have two years of eligibility remaining for the Ragin' Cajuns. He joins early signees Scott Plaisance (New Orleans, La./Country Day HS), Bryce Washington (New Orleans, La./St. Augustine HS) and Jonathan Stove (Baton Rouge, La./Christian Life Academy) as newcomers on the 2014-15 squad.
The Salisbury, Md., product averaged a team-high 16.4 points and 6.4 rebounds as a sophomore at Western Texas College where he was named to the All-Western Junior College Athletic Conference team. Walker shot 61 percent from the floor and 77 percent from the free throw line.
"Devonta is a very good athlete who can run the floor and is a good shooter out the 3-point line,' Marlin said. "He's a good free throw shooter who can certainly rebound and defend. He'll really help us on our front line and will give us some additional length and size. He's a versatile player who can play at the small or power forward spot. We're really excited to have him join our program."
As a senior at Salisbury's Parkside High School, Walker averaged 17.4 points and 12.1 rebounds as a senior. Walker averaged 15.4 points and 10.4 rebounds over his final two seasons at PHS
