SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Ragin' Cajuns golf team finds itself in 11th place after 36 holes at the Oak Hills Invitational on Monday. The final round at Oak Hills Country Club begins at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow.
"We got some good play out of a couple guys today," head coach Theo Sliman said. "Bad news is that this is a team event and we didn't expect to see some of the numbers that we saw from some of the upperclassmen. We need to compete, and I'm not quite seeing the competitive drive from our whole team. I take full responsibility for that.
"The good thing is that a lot of teams are bunched up in the middle. We need to come out and have a good day and move up the leaderboard."
The Cajuns fired a two-round score of 31-over (599) and sit 28 strokes out of first place.
No.36 North Texas leads the Oak Hills Invite at three-over par (571). No.44 Oklahoma (+6, 574), UTSA (+7, 575), No.40 Baylor (+9, 577) and No.49 Wichita State (+15, 583) round out the top five teams.
Seniors Yohann Vora and Brandt Garon find themselves in the top 15 after day one. Vora paces Louisiana in a tie for ninth at two-over par (144), while Garon sits in a tie for 15th just one stroke back of Vora at three-over (145).
Vora was in a tie for the lead after the first round carding the teams only round in the 60s with a score of 69 in the morning.
Fellow senior Ethan Savoy bounced back from a tough morning round to finish the day in a tie for 47th at nine-over (151).
"I was very happy to see Yohann maintain his composure after leading through the first 18 holes," Sliman added. "It was nice to see Ethan bounce back and close out the day with a good round."
Kelsey Angelle and Peter Lamaris round out the scoring for the Cajuns as Angelle is in a tie for 77th at 17-over and Lamaris is in 84th at 27-over.
North Texas's Rodolfo Cazaubon sits atop the individual leaderboard at four-under par (138).
