CHOUDRANT, La. - The Ragin' Cajuns golf team will look to bounce back from a 13th place finish a week ago as they tee off at the Argent Financial Classic beginning Monday at Squire Creek Country Club.
Originally scheduled for a 54-hole, three-round tournament, the format has been change due to weather forecasts calling for below freezing temperatures cutting the tournament down to a 36-hole, two-round tournament that will begin with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Monday. Start time for Tuesday will also be 10 a.m.
"We are very anxious to get back into competition," head coach Theo Sliman said. "Squire Creek is a tough course under good conditions. The weather conditions we will have this week will make it even tougher. I have the utmost confidence in this team. They have shown in the past they can handle adverse conditions."
The 13-team field includes host Louisiana Tech, Arkansas State, UALR, Central Arkansas, Louisiana, ULM, Missouri State, New Orleans, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, Southeastern Louisiana and Texas State.
Christian Verrougstraete, Haraldur Magnus, Thomas Strandemo, Ross Davis and Fernando Cruz Valle will make the start for the Cajuns. Sophomore Jason Noto will also be in action playing as an individual.
"I'm really happy to see Jason in the van," Sliman added. "He brings a good vibe to this team. I am interested to see how he handles the pressure of competing."
After the Argent Financial Classic, the squad heads home for the 29th Annual Louisiana Classics held at Oakbourne Country Club from March 10-11.
