MUSCLE SCHOALS, Ala. - The Ragin' Cajuns golf team carded a final round score of 15-over to finish in seventh place at the 2013 Sun Belt Golf Championship at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.
"This was a disappointing end to a disappointing year," head coach Theo Sliman said. "I think I have learned a lot as a coach, and I think just the same the players have learned a lot from this year. I am proud of the three seniors. They have represented this university well both on the course and in the classroom."
Senior Brandt Garon notched his third top 10 performance of the spring after carding a 71 (-1) on the final day to finish in a tie for seventh at four-over (220).
"Hopefully Brandt hasn't played his last tournament today, but if he has this performance validates that he is an all-conference player and a very good golfer," head coach Theo Sliman mentioned.
No.38 North Texas won the 2013 Sun Belt Championship with a 54-hole score of seven-over (871) edging out Georgia State (+12, 867) by five strokes. No.49 South Alabama (+16, 880) finished third at the tournament, while Middle Tennessee (+22, 886) and UALR (+30) round out the top 5 teams.
Louisiana finished the tournament with a score of 36-over par (900) three shots back of Troy for sixth place.
The Jaguars Lane Hulse reclaimed the individual lead to win medalist honors shooting even par on the final day to finish with a three-round score of two-under (214).
Freshman Ross Davis posted his third top 25 finish of the spring placing in a tie for 22nd at nine-over (225). Yohann Vora saw his Louisiana career come to an end finishing in a tie for 31st at 12-over par, while Thomas Strandemo capped the scoring for the Ragin' Cajuns at 18-over to place in a tie for 45th.
