Alas, the Cajuns dance is over so soon. The Cajuns fall to the Creighton Blue Jays, 76-66.
UL ends its season at 23-12, marking a great effort and its first entry into the NCAA Tourney since 2005.
In a game that saw the Cajuns forego an early lead with 13 minutes remaining in the first half, the Cajuns hung close to Creighton in the first half, trailing 39-33 at the break.
The Sun Belt champions, however, made a significant 9-0 run over a span of 3:20, retaking and opening a 50-46 lead over the Blue Jays with 12:07 left in regulation. Yet, Creighton proved to be exceptionally strong defensively and battled its way back.
Creighton, led by the 30 points of Doug McDermott, extended its lead on the backs of its three-point shooters, leading 73-64 with a minute remaining. Forward Ethan Wragge went 3-3 during that second half stretch for the Jays.
Conversely, the Cajuns did not shoot well in the second half.
In the end, the margin proved too great for the Cajuns to overcome. Creighton will face Baylor in the next round of the tournament.
