Cajuns Come Out In Great Shape After Second Scrimmage

LAFAYETTE - Brooks Haack tossed a pair of touchdowns and freshman Jordan Davis added a touchdown throw as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns held their second scrimmage of fall camp on Saturday at Cajun Field.

Darrius Hoggins added a short touchdown run in the approximate 100-play scrimmage for the Ragin' Cajuns, who will open the 2014 season on Aug. 30 against Southern University.

"We came out of this scrimmage, again, healthy and I'm proud that all of our guys came out in great shape," Louisiana head coach Mark Hudspeth said. "We're healthy. We're still not where we need to be yet. I still want to see us play a little bit harder."

Haack, a sophomore, took the majority of the snaps for the Ragin' Cajuns as he connected with Elijah McGuire for a 42-yard scoring pass and Nick Byrne on a 6-yard TD throw. Davis, a true freshman, threw a 6-yard scoring pass to Jared Johnson while Hoggins capped off the scoring with a 1-yard plunge up the middle.

Hunter Stover booted field goals of 22 and 42 yards for the Ragin' Cajuns while Stephen Brauchle opened the scoring with a 33-yard field goal.

Montrel Carter recorded a team-high eight tackles for the Ragin' Cajuns defense with Jake Molbert, Boris Anyama and freshman Taylor Schartle adding five each.
