The team spent the night in New Orleans, arriving back in Lafayette Sunday afternoon as champions.
KATC was the only TV station at the Athletic Complex as the Cajuns returned home.
Dozens gathered at the Ragin' Cajuns Athletic Complex in Lafayette as the R and L Carrier's New Orleans Bowls Champions arrived home.
"The city and the university definitely needed this win," said Erin Butler.
A win that didn't come easy, and one that came down to the wire keeping fans on their feet.
"Pass interference wasn't called twice in a row, so that was kind of un-nerving and then when the game is left up to the kicker to win, all the pressure that is on him and the rest of the team," said Butler.
Mrs. Claus said the game was "very exciting and they came through for us."
Ecstatic fans were comparing the Cajuns' win to the Superbowl and said the Cajuns' win is even bigger than when the Saints won just a few years ago.
