A six-hit outburst sparked a five-run rally in the sixth inning as the Ragin' Cajuns baseball team recovered from a five-run deficit and went on to claim a 7-6 victory over Troy here Friday evening at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.
With the win the Ragin' Cajuns extended their home field win streak to 10 games and snapped the Trojans' seven-game win streak.
Louisiana (21-8, 5-5 Sun Belt) fell behind 5-0 after 2-1/2 innings as Troy (20-8, 6-4 Sun Belt) benefitted from a pair of home runs.
Trailing 5-1 entering the home half of the sixth inning, Louisiana began the frame with five consecutive base hits which produced three runs and trimmed Troy's lead to 5-4.
Two batters later, Michael Strentz punched a two-out single into right center field off reliever Nate Hill that scored two runs and lifted the Cajuns into a 6-5 lead.
Louisiana added an insurance run in the seventh inning on a Blake Trahan suicide squeeze bunt.
Seth Harrison held the Trojans to a single run and three hits over the final three innings to collect the save for the third straight game.
The series continues Saturday at 6 p.m. with Austin Robichaux (3-2, 3.10 ERA) getting the start for Louisiana and Will Starling (4-2, 4.96 ERA) taking the mound for Troy.
Strentz was one of three Cajuns with two RBI. Tyler Girouard extended his hitting streak to 14 games and Dex Kjerstad posted a multiple-hit game for the eighth time in the past 10 outings.
Ryan Wilson finished strong after surrendering four runs in the second inning. In his final four innings the Trojans picked up only one more run, three hits and Wilson retired the final six batters he faced.
Troy grabbed the early lead in the second inning as Brandon Brown launched a three-run home run and Logan Pierce singled home a run - all with two outs.
A Trae Santos solo home run led off the top of the third and established the Trojans' five-run advantage. UL got one of the runs back in the bottom of the third on an RBI infield single by Girouard.
Wilson bought time for the Cajuns batters as he took control of the middle frames by allowing only one Troy baserunner.
Harrison doubled to lead off the bottom of the sixth and begin the Cajuns rally. Four straight singles capped off by a two-run job from Ryan Leonards chased Tanner Hicks off the mound and cut the Cajuns deficit to 5-4.
Hill struck out Girouard and got Caleb Adams on a bouncer back to the mound for two quick outs. The Trojans attempted to pitch around Strentz, but Hill's 3-0 offering was left over the plate and the Cajuns catcher cashed in with his third hit of the night to drive home Kjerstad with the tying run and Leonards with the go-ahead run.
After Trahan's squeeze in the seventh, the Trojans threatened in the eighth with Santos' second solo home run of the game and a subsequent double from Matt Howard.
Harrison and the Cajuns held on to their lead as he fielded a bunt attempt from Josh McDorman, threw out Howard at third base and then induced a double play ball off the bat of Garrett Pitts.
