A bill naming portions of state highways running through Vermilion and Iberia Parishes the "Cajun Corridor Byway" will soon be making is way through the legislature.
House Bill 1055, authored by Rep. John Guinn, R-Jennings, would give the designation to LA 14 from Gueydan to Delcambre. This bill is an extension of another bill, HB 136, which designates LA 14 west of Gueydan and other state highways running through Jeff Davis and Cameron Parishes the "Flyway Byway."
The two byways, according to Guinn, would allow bird watchers an easier way of tracking migratory birds.
"Birdwatching has become a very popular thing, and we've noticed an increase in people coming to Jeff Davis Parish to look at them," Guinn said. "It's a way to use our natural resources as a benefit for us. It will be a good economic boost for the small towns along that route."
HB 136 passed the House unanimously and is on its way to the Senate. HB 1055 is waiting to be considered by the House Transportation, Highways, and Public Works Committee.
